Augusta GreenJackets News Release
Augusta, GA - With the Asheville Tourists leading the Augusta GreenJackets by a 3-2 score in the bottom of the fifth inning, Sunday's game between the two teams was suspended due to rain and will be finished at 2:05 p.m. on Monday before the regularly scheduled Memorial Day contest.
Asheville picked up four straight hits with one out in the first off Chris Heston. The last two - from Joe Sanders and Jared Clark - brought home two runs to give the Tourists an early lead. Augusta tied things in the bottom of the third inning on a Chris Dominguez sacrifice fly and a two-out, run-scoring single from Luke Anders.
The Tourists reclaimed the lead in the fourth as Dallas Tarleton hit back-to-back singles with one out to start the rally. Avery Barnes' grounder to third went through the legs of Chris Dominguez, allowing Tarleton to score the go-ahead run from third. The Jackets had Evan Crawford at third following his two-out triple in the fourth, but stranded him there to end the inning.
After the top of the fifth, the storm clouds opened after they'd been gathered for a few innings. After a 55 minute rain delay, with more rain in the forecast, the decision was made to suspend the game. Following the conclusion of this game, the Tourists and GreenJackets will face off for their regularly scheduled Memorial Day clash, which becomes a seven-inning contest.
In the second game, Augusta will send Jorge Bucardo (3-2, 1.95) to the mound to face Juan Gonzalez (2-0, 2.96). First pitch will come at 2:05 p.m. with the pregame action beginning at 1:50 p.m. on WRDW AM 1630, www.greenjacketsbaseball.com and www.wrdwam.com.
Fans can purchase seats to all home games by calling the GreenJackets front office at 706-922-WINS while further information can be found online at www.greenjacketsbaseball.com.
