Hagerstown Suns News Release

The Hagerstown Suns (27-23) could not find a way to beat the Greenville Drive (6-1) despite JR Higley's first home run of the season on Sunday. The Suns ended up falling 6-1.

Hagerstown fell behind early as righthander Trevor Holder (4-2) gave up two runs in the second inning and another in the third, giving the Drive a 3-0 lead. After working out of a jam with only one run allowed in the third, Holder settled down and ended up tossing six innings, allowing just three hits and three runs while striking out five.

Holder, however, was saddled with the loss as the Suns offense sputtered.

Greenville starting pitcher Yeiper Castillo excelled for the visitors, tossing seven innings and allowing just three hits, while striking out five Suns hitters.

One of those three hits came in the bottom of the seventh inning as the Suns center fielder Higley drove a ball over the right-field wall for his first home of the season. That brought the Suns within striking distance at 3-1.

That was as close as the Suns would get, as right handed reliever Wanel Vasquez gave up one run in each of the seventh, eighth and ninth innings, extending the Greenville lead to 6-1. Shane Erb retired the only two batters he faced in the top of the ninth.

Greenville reliever Anatanaer Batista worked two perfect innings to close the door on the Suns.

The Suns and Drive will finish their four-game series at Municipal Stadium on Monday at 2:05 p.m. Greenville currently leads the series two games to one.
