Lake County Captains News Release
(Lexington, KY)--Eric King's RBI sacrifice fly in the bottom of the eighth inning Monday drove in the eventual game-winning run in Lexington's 3-2 victory over the Lake County Captains at Applebee's Park.
The Captains (30-25) have dropped two straight after winning the series opener. The loss on Monday pushed the Captains to eight games out of first place because the division-leading Lakewood BlueClaws shut out Delmarva 3-0.
King's RBI, his 10th against the Captains this season, drove in Mark Ori, who had doubled off Julio Pinto (2-4) to lead off the inning. Ori moved to third on a sacrifice bunt by Koby Clemens, and then scored on King's fly ball to right to give the Legends a 3-2 lead.
The Legends (24-33) tied the game at 2-2 with an unearned run off Pinto in the sixth.
Jake Hurry (3-1) pitched the final 1 1/3 innings to pick up the win. In the ninth, he allowed a lead-off hit to P.J. Hiser, but promptly picked Hiser off at first base. Fernando Pacheco singled, but Hurry got two fielder's choice grounders to end the game.
After trailing 1-0 early, the Captains tied it on a solo homer by Mike Butia in the second, and took the lead on Chris Gimenez's sacrifice fly in the fifth.
Frank Herrmann started and pitched five innings for the Captains, allowing one run on eight hits. He left with a 2-1 lead, but had the decision wiped out when the Legends tied the game in the sixth.
The Captains will wrap up the series and road trip on Tuesday night at 7:05. After an off-day Wednesday, the Captains will return to Classic Park for Fan Appreciation Weekend beginning Thursday night at 7:05. For tickets call 440-954-WINS.
