Legends Three-Game Win Streak Halted

Rio Rancho, NM (February 1, 2011) - The Texas Legends had their three-game winning streak snapped on Tuesday night as they fell 130-123 to the New Mexico Thunderbirds at the Santa Ana Star Center.

New Mexico jumped on top 12-2 early in the ballgame and extended their lead up to as much as 20 points at 54-34 with seven minutes to go in the half. However, from that point on the Legends outscored the Thunderbirds 27-6 to head into the break up by one, 64-63.

The game would remain tight through the third quarter, as New Mexico took a one-point lead into the fourth on a Dar Tucker 3-pointer.

After an Antonio Daniels 3-pointer pulled the Legends within one, 116-115, with under two minutes to go in the game, New Mexico went on a game-deciding 9-2 sprint to help the Thunderbirds get the win.

Dominique Johnson had a huge game for Texas in the loss with 31 points on 10-of-12 shooting and a perfect 5-for-5 from beyond the arc, while Joe Alexander added 27 points.

Tucker led six double-digit scorers for New Mexico with 25 points. Shane Edwards put in 20 and Abdulai Jalloh contributed 19.

Texas fell to 14-14 on the season after the loss, while New Mexico improved to 14-15.

The Legends will play the second of back-to-back games at New Mexico tomorrow night. Tip-off is set for 8:30 p.m.
