
T-Birds Fall on Buzzer Beater to Legends

Rio Rancho, NM - Dominique Johnson hit a buzzer beater for the Texas Legends (15-14) to help them to a 110-108 victory over the New Mexico Thunderbirds (14-16) on Wednesday night at the Santa Ana Star Center.
After combining to score over 250 points the night before, the Thunderbirds and Legends played another high scoring first half with the Thunderbirds holding a slim 61-59 lead at the half. Josh Bostic led all scorers with 14 points including two 3-pointers for the Thunderbirds. On the other side Joe Alexander led the Legends with 13 points and did the majority of his damage at the free throw line, hitting seven free throws.
In the third quarter, with the Thunderbirds holding a 75-74 lead, they went on a 12-3 run to take a 10 point lead, their largest of the game. The Legends answered with a 9-1 lead and would trail by just four points heading into the fourth quarter.
The Legends started the fourth quarter by scoring the first seven points to take a 93-90 lead. The Thunderbirds responded with a quick 6-0 run capped by an alley oop from Dar Tucker to Jamine Peterson. With 2:44 to go and the Legends trailing by three points, Booker Woodfox hit a three pointer to tie up the game, 106-106. After the teams traded baskets, Johnson hit a fadeaway as time expired to win the game.
The Thunderbirds will be back in action on Friday against the Rio Grande Valley Vipers at 7:30 p.m. at the Santa Ana Star Center. Friday will feature $1 hot dogs and $2 beers.
