Lexington Legends News Release

Mike Foltynewicz turned in another strong start, and Zach Johnson had two hits and two runs batted in as the Lexington Legends took the opener of a three-game series with the Greenville Drive 6-2 Monday night at Whitaker Bank Ballpark.

Foltynewicz (2-1), who pitched six shutout innings at Hagerstown April 11, worked the first seven innings to get the win. He allowed three hits and two runs, one unearned, and lowered his earned run average for the season to 1.72.

The Legends took a 1-0 lead in the first inning. With two out, Jordan Scott reached first on an infield single, took second on a wild pitch by Greenville starter Luis Diaz, and scored on Johnson's single to center field.

Greenville tied the game in the third. Jordan Weems walked, and Jose Vinicio reached on an error by second baseman Delino DeShields Jr. as Weems took third. After Foltynewicz picked Vinicio off first, Weems scored on a ground out by Cody Koback.

The Legends broke the tie with two runs in the third inning. DeShields led off with a walk, but was forced out at second on a grounder hit by Justin Gominsky. Gominsky took second on a ground out to the pitcher by Scott and came home on Johnson's double. Johnson went to third on a wild pitch and scored on Matt Duffy's single.

Lexington scored two more runs in the fourth. Mike Kvasnicka's leadoff triple and a one-out single by Jimmy Howick produced one run. A wild pitch sent Howick to second. After DeShields drew a walk, Howick stole third. He came home on a fielder's choice as Gominsky grounded to Jose Garcia at second. After fielding the ball, Garcia ran toward DeShields, who had rounded second, and then threw home too late to get Howick, and the Legends led 5-1.

Henry Ramos' RBI double in the sixth gave Greenville its final run. The Legends answered with a run in the bottom of the sixth on a walk to Howick, a stolen base, a single by Gominski that sent Howick to third, and a passed ball that allowed him to score.

Greenville starter Luis Diaz (0-2) allowed five runs and seven hits in three and one-third innings and took the loss.

The series resumes Tuesday night. Game time is 7:05 p.m.
