Lexington starter Ofreidy Gomez allowed one run in seven innings as the Legends won 5-2 at Asheville Tuesday night.
Gomez (2-6) struck out six batters and walked none. Vance Tatum allowed a run in the eighth, and Anthony Bender pitched a scoreless ninth for his third save.
The Legends opened the scoring with two runs in the top of the third inning. Manny Olloque drew a leadoff walk, moved to second on a balk, and scored on a single by Marten Gasparini. Gasparini was thrown out trying to advance to second base, but Rudy Martin, playing in his fourth game with the Legends, followed with his first home run of the season.
The Tourists answered with a run in the bottom of the third on a double by Eric Toole, a ground out and a single by Manny Melendez.
A two-run double by Olloque in the fourth gave the Legends a 4-1 lead.
That score held until the bottom of the eighth when singles by Melendez and Colton Welker and a run-scoring double by Vince Fernandez cut the lead to two. But the Legends added a run in the ninth. Singles by Gasparini and Martin put runners at first and third, and Khalil Lee's bunt brought Gasparini home with the game's final run.
Asheville starter Antonio Santos (2-4) was the losing pitcher.
With the win, the Legends reached the .500 mark for the season at 25-25. They were seven games under at 11-18 on May 5.
The Legends have won the first two games of the three-game series and will try for the sweep Wednesday night. First pitch is set for 7:05. Box score
