Kannapolis Cannon Ballers News Release
HICKORY, N.C. - Hickory staked itself to an early lead as the Intimidators offense struggled in a 1-0 loss to the Crawdads in seven innings on Tuesday evening at L.P. Frans Stadium in the first game of a doubleheader. Kannapolis (26-23) managed four hits in the game.
Hickory scored an early run in the bottom of the first and held it up for the rest of the game. Franklin Rollin lined a 1-out triple to the wall in left-center field and scored one batter later on a Leody Taveras smash against a drawn-in infield.
Crawdads starter Michael Matuella dodged base runners in scoring position in each of his 3.0 scoreless innings of work. He did not factor into the decision, finishing with three hits allowed while striking out five and walking none. Kaleb Fontenot (2-1) earned the win with 3.0 hitless innings, striking out three and walking one. Tyler Ferguson tossed a scoreless seventh for the save (1).
Bernardo Flores, the White Sox seventh round selection in the June 2016 First-Year Player Draft out of USC, bounced back with scoreless frames in the second through fifth innings. Flores (5-4) scattered seven hits while striking out five and walking none in 5.0 innings of work while taking the loss. Ben Wright faced the minimum in a scoreless sixth inning for Kannapolis.

The series wraps up on Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. as RHP Blake Hickman makes his professional debut for Kannapolis against Hickory's RHP Edgar Arredondo (2-2, 5.91 ERA).
