Legends Make Greensboro Blue With Ninth Inning Rally

GREENSBORO, NC. - Wednesday afternoon bore a strong resemblance to Tuesday night. A big ninth inning rally led to a 5-4 win only this time it was the Legends that got the victory.

Tim Torres belted a two run homer as part of a three run ninth inning rally and scampered home on a throwing error in the eleventh inning to win it for the Legends. Torres also threw out Chris Coghlan in the bottom half of the inning to force extra frames

Victor Garate (3-1) earned the win with 2 1/3 scoreless innings of work. Kyle DeYoung, one night removed from a blown save and a loss, finished out the game with two strikeouts to earn the save.

Greensboro touched up Polin Trinidad for a run in the first inning. John Raynor led off with a double and scored one batter later on a sacrifice fly by Coghlan.

The Grasshoppers added two runs in the fourth inning. Adam Howard scored on a bases loaded fielder's choice by Greg Burns. John Raynor ripped a single to left field to score Daniel Garcia to make it 3-0.

Lexington got on the board on a Jimmy Van Ostrand's run scoring double in the sixth inning. Greensboro got the run back in the seventh inning. Scott Cousins singled, stole second base and scored on Chris Hatcher's single.

The Legends tied it up with three ninth inning runs. In addition to Torres' blast, Van Ostrand singled in Eric Taylor to even the score at 4 apiece.

The Legends broke up the tie with the winning run in the 11th inning when Greensboro pitcher Don Czyz turned a sacrifice bunt into a game winning play. Torres led off with a single. Eric Taylor bunted Torres to second who then scored on a throwing error to first.

The Legends travel to Hagerstown to open a four game series on Thursday night. The Legends will give the ball to Bud Norris (0-2) who will be making his first start since June 1.

The first pitch is set for 7:05pm at Municipal Stadium. Legends network coverage will start at 6:50pm.
