GreenJackets Sweep the Tourists

Augusta, GA - The GreenJackets (48-18) finished off the three game sweep of the Asheville Tourists (39-26) with a 4-2 win Wednesday afternoon. Starter Kevin Pucetas worked six strong innings allowing just one run for the win and the GreenJackets used a four run fifth inning to take the lead.

Augusta trailed 1-0 heading into the bottom of the fifth inning but sent 10 batters to the plate and scored four times on four hits and took advantage of two fielding errors. With the bases loaded Emmanuel Burriss connected for an RBI ground out to tie the game at 1-1. Ryan Rohlinger was then intentionally walked to load the bases up and setup the double-play. Brett Pill burned the Tourists when he came threw with a three-run double giving Augusta a 4-1 lead.

Pucetas (8-1) scattered five hits over the six innings worked, did not walk a batter and struck out four.

Steven Calicutt pitched the final three innings for his second save of the season allowing one run on two hits. Calicutt also walked one and struck out three.

Asheville took a 1-0 lead in the third inning when Spence Nagy scored on the RBI ground out from Hector Gomez. Nagy doubled to start the frame then stole third base.

The Tourists final run of the game came in the ninth inning when Daniel Mayora scored on an RBI triple from Matt Repec.

The GreenJackets will travel to Charleston, SC to open up a four game series with the RiverDogs on Thursday night to wrap up the first half of the season. Augusta will send right-hander Adam Cowart (9-3, 2.04) to the hill while the RiverDogs will send righty Hector Noesi (1-0, 3.75). First pitch is at 7:05 p.m.

Game Notes:

The GreenJackets have won a season high 12 straight games at home.

Emmanuel Burriss extended his hitting streak to 12 games with a 1-for-5 night in Game One.

Pucetas won his third straight start, the first time this season the right-hander has done that.

Augusta finished the home stand 7-0 with back-to-back sweeps over Savannah and Asheville.

Augusta recorded its eighth sweep of the season.

Wednesday afternoon was the third straight game against the Tourists a GreenJacket player connected for a three-run double.
