
Hickory Shuts Down Power, 5-2

Hickory, NC-The Hickory Crawdads cooled off the West Virginia Power, 5-2, Wednesday at L.P. Frans Stadium. Jeff Sues picked up his first pro win.
The Power jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first inning. With runners at the corners, Chucky Caufield took off from first and Kris Watts sent an errant throw into center, allowing Brent Brewer to score from third. That was the only run Sues allowed.
The Dads' got on the board with a big 4th inning. With Watts and Jim Negrych both in scoring position, Albert LaBoy stroked a 2-run single to right-center, putting Hickory in front 2-1. Later in the inning, Eddie Prasch belted a 2-run HR to right, his 4th of the year, to put the Dads' up 4-1.
Sues lasted through 5, and allowed just the 1 unearned run and 3 hits. Stephen MacFarland came in and allowed a run in the 6th but also struck out the side.
Alex Presley boosted the Dads' lead to 5-2 with a solo HR he cranked in the 7th.
Kyle Pearson worked a scoreless 7th and 8th. Olivo Astacio came in and loaded the bases in the 9th, but struck out 2 and induced a game ending groundout.
Sues (1-2) earned the win. Astacio picked up his 8th save in 9 chances. Roque Mercedes (0-4) was dealt the loss.
The Crawdads open up a 4-game series tomorrow night at 7:00 in Asheville. RHP Bradley Clapp is scheduled to start for Hickory.
