Braves Fall Short

Rome, GA - The Columbus Catfish defeated The Rome Braves Wednesday afternoon 5-4 in front of 3,204 fans at State Mutual Stadium.

The Catfish jumped on the board in the first inning on a RBI double to right field by Cesar Suarez pushing John Matulia across the plate for the 1-0 lead. The very next at-bat Ryan Roster added two runs to their lead with a two-run homer (3) making the score 3-0. The Braves would bounce back in the third with a RBI single by Robert Marcial scoring Chad Lundahl. The Catfish padded their lead scoring a run on Craig Albernaz's sacrifice fly scoring Seth Dhaenens for the 4-1 advantage. Rome bounced back to tie the game in the bottom of the inning. After a Tyler Flowers walk, Danny Breazel singled and Larry Williams walked to load the bases. Victor Hernandez then singled to drive in Flowers and Marcial then delivered a two RBI single to tie the game 4-4. Columbus picked up the game winning run in the ninth on Joey Callender's sacrifice fly scoring Desmond Jennings for the 5-4 win. Columbus turned a rare triple play in the bottom of the eighth inning. It was the second triple play involving the Rome Braves in the last 3 weeks. On May 31st Rome did the trick to Savannah at Grayson Stadium.

James Curtis takes the loss for the Braves (2-1), and Ryan Reid gets credit for the win (4-2).
