Kannapolis Cannon Ballers News Release
Kannapolis, NC - Having to wait out an hour and 39-minute rain delay before the game started, the Kannapolis Intimidators and Greenville Drive did not finish the final game of their three-game series until well after 11:00 pm. When they did, it was Kannapolis who was victorious, 4-3, Wednesday night at Fieldcrest Cannon Stadium. The Intimidators (30-36) took two of three games in the series against the Drive (25-40).
Just like Tuesday, Kannapolis battled back on numerous occasions. Kannapolis faced three separate one-run deficits, tying up the game in the fourth, sixth, and seventh innings before pulling away with a run in the bottom of the eighth inning.
Stefan Gartrell led off the eighth inning with a triple. Brandon Allen immediately knocked him in as the next batter.
Kanekoa Texeira earned his seventh save in eight chances, striking out two batters and walking one in the ninth inning.
Fautino De Los Santos got the start for Kannapolis, allowing two runs on seven hits, striking out five and walking one. Steve Spurgeon (2-0) got the win, pitching a 1-2-3 eighth inning.
Gartrell scored three runs and had two hits. Lee Cruz had a double and a single.
Kannapolis has now won nine of 11 games against Greenville this season, with six games remaining against the Drive.
The Intimidators travel to Greensboro to take on the Grasshoppers Thursday. Kannapolis has lost six of eight to Greensboro. Game time is set for 7:00 pm.
