June 15, 2011 - South Atlantic League (SAL1)
Lexington Legends News Release

Pitcher Ruben Alaniz earned his third straight victory, and Mike Kvasnicka and Jiovanni Mier had RBI singles as the Lexington Legends held on for a 2-1 win over the Augusta GreenJackets Wednesday afternoon in Augusta.

The Legends took a 1-0 lead in the fourth inning. Ben Orloff singled leading off the inning, went to second on a ground out by Mier, and scored on Kvasnicka's two-out single.

In the top of the seventh, the Legends added a run on a walk to Emilio King, a sacrifice by Jhonny Medrano, and Mier's base hit with two outs.

Augusta answered with a run in the bottom of the seventh. Adam Duvall walked, and after Josh Mazzola struck out, Ryan Scoma singled, moving Duvall to third. Rafael Rodriguez' sacrifice fly brought Duvall home, and the Legends' lead stood at 2-1.

Duvall, the former University of Louisville star who leads the South Atlantic League in homers, nearly tied it in the bottom of the ninth, but his long fly to left field was caught by Enrique Hernandez just short of the wall. Duvall had homered in each of the first three games of the series.

Alaniz (5-4) worked six and two-thirds innings and allowed four hits and one run. Gabriel Garcia pitched an inning and two-thirds without giving up a hit, and Jorge DeLeon retired the GreenJackets in order in the ninth to get his eighth save in 10 save opportunities this season.

The Legends' road trip will continue in Rome with a four-game series against the Braves. The opener is set for Thursday night at 7 p.m.
