Kannapolis Cannon Ballers News Release
KANNAPOLIS, N.C. (June 15, 2011) -- The Kannapolis Intimidators committed four errors in a rain-soaked 5-3 loss to the Delmarva Shorebirds on Wednesday night at Fieldcrest Cannon Stadium. The loss keeps Kannapolis 2.0 games out of first place in the Northern Division with four to play in the first half of the SAL season.
The Shorebirds took the lead for good in the seven inning as the Intimidators made three fielding errors leading to three Delmarva runs and a 5-3 lead. Starting pitcher Paul Burnside was chased from the game in the top of the seventh after the first two batters he faced reached base on errors. Burnside (6-3) took the loss, finishing the game allowing four runs (two earned) on seven hits with two walks and four strikeouts in six innings of work.
Delmarva took advantage of Kannapolis failing to turn a double play in the second inning. Riley Hornback reached base with an RBI fielders choice when Kyle Eveland lost the ball on the transfer trying to turn inning-ending double play, and Dudley Leonora followed with a run- scoring single, making it 2-0 Delmarva, their first lead of the series.
Kannapolis answered in the bottom of the third on Juan Silverio's solo home run (5). After Jarret Martin walked Brady Shoemaker, Trayce Thompson blasted a two-run home run (12) to right-center field to capture the lead, 3-2.
The Shorebirds added a pair of singles in the top of the fifth innings, but Eveland and Drew Lee turned their second double play of the game to end the inning and keep the Shorebirds off the scoreboard at that time.
The Intimidators wrap up the first half of the season with a four-game series against the first place Greensboro Grasshoppers in Kannapolis starting Thursday at 7:05 p.m. Tickets are available by calling (704) 932-3267 or visiting www.IntimidatorsBaseball.com.
