Legends Hit Four Homers, Roll Past Wv 9-3

(CHARLESTON, W. Va.) The Lexington Legends hit four home runs and starting pitcher Nick Tropeano turned in six shutout innings as the Legends gained a split of a four-game series with a 9-3 win over the West Virginia Power Sunday.

The Legends jumped in front in the second inning on a two-run homer by Brandon Meredith. They added two more in the third inning when Jordan Scott hit his first homer of the year following a single by Delino DeShields Jr.

Zach Johnson and Chan Jong Moon singled to start the sixth inning for Lexington, and Mike Kvasnicka followed with his 10th home run of the season, a 400-foot shot over the wall in right center field, giving the Legends a 7-0 lead.

DeShields joined the longball parade with a solo homer in the top of the seventh.

The Legends added their final run in the eighth on a double by Chan Jong Moon and a single by Roberto Pena.

West Virginia scored all of its runs in the bottom of the ninth. Francisco Aponte and Dan Gamache drew walks from reliever Euris Quezada, and both runners scored on a double by Jose Osuna. Osuna later scored on a single by Chris Lashmet.

Tropeano (6-4) allowed two hits and no runs through the first six innings to get the win. He walked three batters, two in the first inning, and struck out six.

West Virginia starter Zack Von Ronenberg (0-2) worked the first five innings and took the loss after allowing eight hits and seven runs.

The Legends open a four-game series in Greensboro, N.C. Monday night. Game time is 7 p.m.
