HICKORY, NC - The Greensboro Grasshoppers avoided the series sweep by hanging on for the 4-3 win against the Hickory Crawdads, before 1,667 fans at L.P. Frans Stadium on Sunday night . The game was delayed for an hour and 48 minutes in the bottom of the fifth inning due to rain.

Both teams were kept scoreless through the first three innings before the Grasshoppers (1-3, 47-27) collected a run in the top of the fourth inning. SS Terrence Dayleg doubled with two outs and came around to score on an RBI single from C Wilfredo Gimenez, putting Greensboro up, 1-0.

The Crawdads (3-1, 39-34) wasted little time to tie the score as they picked up a run in the bottom of the fourth. With two down and the bases clear, 2B Alejandro Selen rocketed a two-run home run over the left-center field wall to tie the game, 1-1.

LHP Will Lamb started for the Crawdads and pitched four innings, allowing just the one run on four hits while striking out four Greensboro batters. He registered the no-decision.

Facing RHP Santo Perez (L, 2-7), the Grasshoppers tallied three unearned runs in the top of the fifth inning. CF Rand Smith reached base on an error and quickly scored on an RBI single by 2B Austin Barnes. Barnes scored on an RBI double down the right field line by LF Aaron Senne, who then raced home on an RBI base hit by 1B Ryan Rieger, opening up a 4-1 lead for Greensboro.

The Crawdads responded with two runs of their own to begin the bottom of the fifth inning. 1B Jhonny Gomez led off the inning with a single and advanced to third on a double by CF Chris Grayson. LF Trever Adams followed with a two-run double into the left-center field gap to bring the 'Dads within just one run of tying it, 4-3.

With Adams on at second and representing the potential game-tying run, the rain began pouring down and the umpires called for the tarp. After the rain delay lasted an hour and 48 minutes, the game resumed and Greensboro RHP James Nygren (W, 3-1) was able to navigate through the rest of the fifth with no further damage being done, keeping the 'Hoppers ahead, 4-3.

Hickory LHP Andrew Faulkner dealt the remainder of the game for the Crawdads, tossing four scoreless innings while striking out five batters and keeping Hickory just one run away from tying the score.

However, Nygren kept the 'Dads from tying it through his three frames, before RHP Brad Mincey (S, 4) finished the game for the 'Hoppers with two innings of scoreless work to close the 4-3 win for Greensboro.
