Jersey Shore BlueClaws News Release

HAGERSTOWN, MD. - The BlueClaws used a 1st-inning explosion to take a 4-0 lead en route to their 5-3 victory over the Hagerstown Suns Sunday afternoon.

The BlueClaws got an impressive start from Ethan Stewart who tossed six innings of one-hit ball. He allowed one unearned run in the 2nd inning for the lone blemish of his afternoon. He has now won four consecutive starts after going 0-6 in his first 10 starts of the season.

Despite the early runs, the game-winning run came to the plate with two outs in the 9th inning, but Kenny Giles struck out Cole Leonida to end the ballgame and secure his third save of the season.

Aaron Altherr was 2-for- 3 in the game with the biggest blast of the game for Lakewood- a three-run homer in the 1st inning to give Lakewood a 4-0 lead. Altherr's home run was his 5th of the season and his first since June 3rd, and Altherr has multi-hit games in his last three games (7-for-12, .583).

Chris Duffy extended his BlueClaws-best hitting streak to 10 games. He was 0-for-2 with a walk before hitting a broken bat grounder in the hole to short stop. Hagerstown's shortstop Bryce Ortega fielded and threw wildly to first, but Duffy was credited with an infield single.

With the victory, the BlueClaws earned a split of the four-game series against the Suns who will be in Lakewood beginning Friday for a five-game series.

The BlueClaws return home tonight to begin a four-game series with the West Virginia Power Monday at FirstEnergy Park. The BlueClaws will send left-hander Lino Martinez (3-4, 6.48) to the mound against West Virginia's Nick Kingham (1-4, 5.22) in Game 1. Lakewood's upcoming 9-game homestand will be the longest of the season for the BlueClawss- spanning June 25th - July 3rd.

First pitch for Monday's game is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. Listen to all the action on WOBM 1160-AM and WOBM 1310-AM beginning at 6:50 p.m. with the BlueClaws Beat pre-game show.
