
Legends Extinguish Fireflies in 9-2 Victory

WHITAKER BANK BALLPARK (Lexington, KY) - The Lexington Legends snapped their losing streak with a 9-2 victory over the Columbia Fireflies. Evan Steele, the starter for Lexington, allowed just two hits through his 5.0 shutout innings.
The Legends plated their first four runs in the bottom of the first inning. Jeison Guzman lined a leadoff single to left centerfield then moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Brhet Bewley. Reed Rohlman drew a walk and there were runners at first and second. Eric Cole then singled home Guzman and the Legends were on the board, 1-0. Chase Vallot then blasted a 397ft three-run home run to left centerfield and Lexington led 4-0.
In the bottom of the fifth inning, Guzman led off with his second hit of the night then advanced to second on a wild pitch. Nate Eaton then reached on an error and Guzman moved to third. Reed Rohlman deposited a double down the right field line and the Legends extended their lead, 6-0. Cole then smacked an RBI single to right field, scoring Rohlman and Lexington led 7-0.
Lexington plated their final runs in the bottom of the seventh inning. Cole drew a leadoff walk then moved to third on a double off the right field wall by Vallot. Chris Hudgins was then hit by a pitch to load the bases. Jackson Lueck then drew the bases loaded walk extending Lexington's lead, 8-0. Guzman grounded out to the pitcher, scoring Vallot and the Legends led, 9-0.
In the bottom of the ninth inning, Chandler Avant led off with a single down the left field line. An RBI double by Mark Vientos scored the first run of the game for the Fireflies. Juan Uriarte then singled home Vientos and the Legends held onto the win, 9-2.
Evan Steele was awarded the victory tossing 5.0 shutout innings allowing two hits while striking out seven and not allowing a free pass. Willy Taveras was given the loss pitching 4.2 innings allowing seven runs (six earned) on nine hits while walking two and striking out five.
The rubber match between the Legends and Fireflies is tomorrow, June 26 at 12:05pm.
