Legends Announce 2018-19 Coaching, Basketball Operations Staff
October 19, 2018 - NBA G League (G League)
Texas Legends News Release
FRISCO, TX - The Texas Legends have announced new additions to their basketball operations staff for the 2018-19 season. Entering his third season as the Legends head coach, Bob MacKinnon will be rejoined by Zachary Chu, Eric Snow, and DJ Nelson, and will add Conor Dow to complete the coaching bench. The Legends have also added G League experience with the addition of Billy Campbell in the role of Director of Basketball Operations.
"Coach MacKinnon and his staff have been hard at work already and we're excited to see what they can do this season," said Legends President/General Manager Malcolm Farmer.
In his first two seasons, MacKinnon has led the Legends to consecutive franchise record wins and NBA Call-Ups and led the team to it's second ever playoff appearance.
"I'm excited about the staff we've put together this year because we all have the same goals in mind," said MacKinnon. "We're focused on getting better every day and creating opportunities for our players for their futures. But beyond all of that, we're focused on this community, on bringing entertainment to the fans and giving back wherever we can. It's one of our mission statements with the Legends and we have a staff and players who have really embraced that culture. It's who we are."
Chu enters his third season with the Legends and MacKinnon. With a background in player development, the Highland Park native will work specifically on post development.
Snow enters his second season with the Legends after joining the team through the NBA Assistant Coaches Program. Snow played 14 seasons in the NBA earning the NBA Sportsmanship Award and J. Walter Kennedy Citizenship Award. In 2012, the Ohio native moved his career to the front office becoming the Director of Player Development for SMU under Hall of Fame Coach Larry Brown.
"Last year was my first year with Coach Mac but also my first year coaching at this level. It was an incredible learning experience so I was thrilled to come back for another season and help the franchise and players," said Snow.
Nelson also enters his second season in a coaching role with the Legends after serving as an international scout for the team for four years. Joining the Legends straight out of college, Nelson quickly moved up the ranks to join MacKinnon's bench. His previous experience in operations and scouting bring depth to a young but knowledgeable coaching staff.
Dow joins the Legends coaching staff after spending last season as a player development intern with the Dallas Mavericks. Prior to his time with the Mavericks, Dow spent two seasons as the Director of Basketball Operations at Lafayette College. Dow played college basketball at Clark University where he got his start in scouting/recruiting as a student-athlete. After graduation, Dow served as Director of Basketball Operations at the MPLEX before a brief stint at MIT as an Assistant Men's Basketball Coach.
Campbell joins the Legends having experience at every level of the sport. Most recently, the Atlanta native served as an assistant high school coach at The Paideia School in Atlanta. Campbell played college basketball at the University of Virginia before joining the Washington Wizards front office as the Basketball Operations and Coaches assistant. While he made a name for himself in the NBA as coordinator of basketball operations for the league office, Campbell also has an extensive background in the scouting world, working for Synergy Sports Tech and personnel scout for EV Hoops.
"I'm excited to be back on the team side of the industry and working with this staff," said Campbell. "I worked with both Malcolm [Farmer] and Bob [MacKinnon] while on the league side so it's fun to join their team."
MacKinnon leads the NBA G League in all-time wins and NBA Call-Ups and will look to add to those records this season.
The Legends will open the 2018-19 season on the road against the Austin Spurs Nov. 6th. The team will then head to Oklahoma City before hosting the Salt Lake City Stars in their home opener Nov. 9th at 7:30pm. A limited number of tickets are still available for the home opener and can be purchased at www.TexLegends.com or by calling 214-469-0822.
