
Lefty Brandenburg returns to Greensboro

(GREENSBORO, NC) The Florida Marlins announced today that left-handed pitcher Adam Brandenburg will return to Greensboro after a short two-game stint with class High-A Jupiter, FL. Brandenburg, who began the season in Greensboro, was transferred to Jupiter on June 24 after Hammerhead's starter Rick Vanden Hurk was placed on the disabled list.
Brandenburg got two starts in Jupiter pitching a combined 8.0 innings. In both games he allowed 13 hits and seven runs while striking out five. In his first start, Brandenburg got the loss in the 5.0 inning performance and leaves Jupiter with a 6.75 ERA in the Florida State League.
While with Greensboro, Brandenburg was 4-4 with a 4.76 ERA. He threw 73.2 innings and allowed 99 hits, 57 runs, five homeruns and struck out 49. Brandenburg's most recent game in the South Atlantic League was on the road against Hickory on June 21 where he received the loss. He was selected by the Marlins in the 21st round of the 2003 First Year Player Draft.
Grasshopper pitcher Jose Garcia and infielder Paul Witt have both been placed on Greensboro's disabled list. Garcia has right rotator cuff tendonitis while Paul Witt has gone on the seven-day-DL with a left hand contusion.
While with Greensboro, Garcia is 3-0 with a 1.27 ERA. He has pitched in five games with four starts allowing 11 hits and five runs. He was added to the Grasshopper roster on June 6 and drafted by Florida as a free agent in 2001.
Paul Witt, one of Greensboro's most recent additions, was added to the roster on June 30 and has played in four games. In 13 at bats, the infielder has hit .231 with three hits and one run. Witt was drafted in the fifteenth round of the 2005 draft out of Baylor University.
The Grasshoppers will play the Charleston RiverDogs in game three of the four game series Wednesday night before hosting the Savannah SandGnats in another four game series June 8- 11. Wednesday's game time is 7:00PM and the gates will open at 6:00PM.
