Hagerstown Suns News Release

SALISBURY, MD - The Hagerstown Suns got three late runs, but in the end it was not enough as they fell to the Delmarva Shorebirds 6-3.

Delmarva got off to a good start against Suns starting pitcher Marcos Frias. Frias, who entered the game with a 2.99 ERA for the season, allowed a run in the first and two more in the second to give Delmarva a 3-0 lead.

The Shorebirds extended their lead with two more runs, one in the fourth and one in the fifth, off of Frias. In total, Frias pitched four and one-third innings, allowing five runs, four of them earned, on 11 hits while striking out four.

Hagerstown's offense was not as successful against Delmarva starting pitcher Ryan O'Shea. O'Shea tossed six and one third innings, surrendering just one run on five hits to earn the win.

After falling behind 6-0 on a run in the bottom of the sixth inning of Suns reliever Austin Garrett, the Suns offense finally got on the board.

Steven Souza led off the seventh with a single to left field and eventually scored on an infield single by Nick Arata, cutting the deficit to 6-1.

The Suns struck again in the eighth inning, and again Souza was an integral part of the Hagerstown attack. Steve Lombardozzi led off with a single, and after Tyler Moore reached on an error, Lombardozzi scored on Souza's fourth base hit of the game, a single to right field. Moore would later score on a sacrifice fly hit by Travis Reagan, bringing the score to 6-3.

The Suns will return to Hagerstown to start a four-game series against the Rome Braves on Monday. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m., and gates will open at Municipal Stadium at 6:05.
