HICKORY, N.C. - The Hickory Crawdads dropped the opener of their four-game home series against the West Virginia Power, 3-1, before 3,398 fans at L.P. Frans Stadium on Saturday night. DH Eric Fry extended his RBI streak to three straight games with a solo home run in the third inning.

The Power (20-18, 47-61) plated the game's first run in the top of the third, when a pitch from RHP Neil Ramirez (3-5) got by C Doug Hogan for a passed ball, scoring CF Starling Marte from third. The Crawdads (21-20, 54-56) came right back in the bottom of the third, when Fry belted his solo home run over the left-center field wall against RHP Casey Erickson (7-4) to tie the game, 1-1.

West Virginia moved back in front, striking for a pair of runs in the top of the fourth. 3B Jeremy Farrell sparked the rally with a double and was followed by a walk drawn by RF Austin McClune. SS Greg Picart singled Farrell in from second base, which also advanced McClune to third. C Josue Peley then bounced into a fielder's choice, bringing in McClune to make it 3-1.

RHP Carlos Pimentel took over for the Crawdads in the top of the fifth inning with runners at second and third and no one out. He got out of the jam with no runs scoring in the frame and went on to pitch four shutout innings in relief to keep the game close before RHP Corey Ragsdale tossed a scoreless top of the ninth. However, West Virginia RHP Diego Moreno countered Pimentel with three shutout frames and RHP Noah Krohl shut the door with a scoreless bottom of the ninth to close the 3-1 win for the Power. Ramirez registered the loss for Hickory, while Erickson earned the win and Krohl logged the save for West Virginia.
