Traverse City Beach Bums News Release

TRAVERSE CITY, MI - The Traverse City Beach Bums scored two runs in the bottom of the ninth, but were unable to finish the comeback as the Beach Bums fell to the Lake Erie Crushers 5-2 in front of 4,180 people at Wuerfel Park on Thursday night.

Trailing 5-0 heading into the ninth, the Beach Bums loaded the bases with nobody out on walks to Ryan Still and D'Marcus Ingram and a single by Taylor Wrenn. A double play stemmed the rally, but Marcus Nidiffer singled through the left side to score Ingram and Wrenn to cut the lead to 5-2. Lake Erie went to the bullpen at that point and Dale Dickerson was able to get Sean Gusrang to fly out to end the game.

The Crushers built their lead with single runs in the first and third innings on an Andrtew Davis groundout and a sac fly from Russ Moldenhauer. Lake Erie then pushed the lead with three, sixth inning markers, keyed by a two-run single from Juan Sanchez.

Dave Middendorf (2-1) went 8.2 innings to get the win with Dickerson notching his first save. Mike Devine took the loss for Traverse City. Offensively, the single for Wrenn extended his hitting streak to 11 games, the longest such streak in the Frontier League in 2013.

The Frontier Greys now head to Wuerfel Park for three games starting with a FANtastic Fireworks Friday with first pitch scheduled for 7:05 pm. Jacob Clem (2-2, 5.79) will start for the Beach Bums against Eric Wooten (3-1, 2.92) for the Greys.
