Trinidad falls to 3-1 with the loss as Rockford starter Jon Gulbransen (1-1) collected the win with a seven-inning complete-game eight-hitter in the opener.

In the nightcap, the CornBelters struck first with a pair of runs in the second inning thanks to a one-out single from Santiago Chirino, who moved to second on a base hit by Devin Thaut and scored on a hit by Keoni Manago, followed by a Mike Schwartz knock to left that scored Thaut.

The Aviators cut the deficit to 2-1 in the second when Michael Hur led off with a single and scored on a double to center by Eric Bainer.

The Belters added an unearned run in the fourth inning when with runners on first and second with two outs, a ground ball to the infield was thrown into the Normal dugout to give the guests a 3-1 lead.

A pair of walks led to an additional run for the Belters in the sixth as Mike Schwartz and Pat McKenna drew the free passes with one out, moved up a base on steals followed by a wild pitch that scored Schwartz to increase the lead to 4-1. Manago drove in an insurance run with a single to center with the bases loaded in the seventh followed by walks to Pat McKenna and Steven Felix to set the final score at 7-1.

Ryan Demmin (2-0) threw a seven-inning complete game seven-hitter for the victory, walking three and striking out nine. Rockford starter Seafth Howe (0-2) took the loss.

The CornBelters begin a six-game homestand on Friday starting with a three-game series with the Southern Illinois Miners.

THE NIBLET : The CornBelters are still seeking host families for the 2013 season. The "Host Family Program" provides players with a home away from home. It enables them to live with a family, couple or individual in the Bloomington-Normal area. It is derived from a variety of factors from a player's standpoint. Such factors include: the difficulty in finding a lease for just several months, the possibility of playing for the CornBelters for a limited time and/or the limited salaries that accompany professional baseball at this level of play.
