
Miners Drop Finale in Extras

Evansville, IN - The Southern Illinois Miners dropped the series finale to the Evansville Otters in extra innings at Bosse Field as Otters short stop Ryan Kresky hit a game winning two run home run off Miners reliever Matt Sergey to win the game 7-5.
The Otters got to Nation early in the bottom of the third inning as catcher John Nester hit a RBI double to score designated hitter Taylor Black. The Miners answered right back in the top of the fifth inning off Otters starter Matt Crim. First baseman Carlos Mendez hit a RBI single with the bases loaded to tie the game at one. The Miners took a 2-1 lead on an error by Otters short stop Ryan Kresky to score center fielder Tyler Hall.
Evansville tied the game at two with an RBI double by left fielder Nick Schwaner off Blake Nation in the top of the fifth inning. Nation limit the Otters at two runs over six innings. He gave up eight hits, walked one batter and recorded two strikeouts.
Southern Illinois regained the lead 4-2 in the top of the seventh inning off Otters reliever Coty Saranthus as short stop Tyler Stubblefield hit a RBI single to score Tyler Hall and Ken Gregory hit a RBI single to score Stubblefield. The Otters added a run off Miners reliever Dayne Quist in the bottom of the seventh inning to trim the Miners lead to one, 4-3.
Southern Illinois added another run to their lead in the top of the eighth inning off Otters reliever Patrick Crider as Stubblefield grounded into a fielder's choice that scored third baseman Carlos Colmenares. Evansville tied the game at five in the bottom of the eighth inning off Miners reliever Reese McGraw. Brandon Cunniff pitched 1/3 of an inning to relieve McGraw in the bottom of the eighth inning.
Miners reliever Matt Sergey entered the game in the top of the ninth inning and struck out one batter. He allowed two runs off three hits. The Miners are now 9-9 on the regular season.
The Miners continue their road trip to Normal, Illinois as they will face the Normal CornBelters. First pitch will get underway from The Corn Crib at 7:00 pm. Mike Ventola will have the call beginning at 6:40 pm on the Miners Radio Network.
The Southern Illinois Miners are the 2012 Frontier League Champions and have been awarded the Frontier League Organization of the Year three times since its inception. It has also set a new Frontier League attendance record in 2007.
