(Joliet, IL) - Joliet starter Brett Zawacki (1-2) finally received the run support he needed to pick up his first victory of the season.

Zawacki struck out eight batters through six and two thirds, as the Slammers (8-10) recorded eight hits and seven runs, beating Windy City (5-14) 7-2 in the rubber game of the three-game set.

The Slammers offense struck first on Thursday, scoring four runs in the bottom of the first inning. Javan Williams led off the ballgame with a single; he stole second base and eventually scored on a balk from starter Travis Strong to give Joliet a 1-0 lead.

Marquis Riley followed Williams with a walk and advanced to third on the balk. David Christensen also reached base on a base-on-balls and both Riley and Christensen were driven home on a two-run double from Michael Wing.

Wing's hit secured his eighth consecutive game that the shortstop has hit safely.

Wing would score the final run in the inning on another balk from Strong and the Slammers led 4-0 after one inning.

Windy City would bring two home in the fourth, but Joliet responded right away with three runs in the home half of the inning.

Erick Gaylord walked and stole second base and Ben Hewett followed with a base-on-balls of his own. A run scored on a RBI single from Williams. Then Grant DeBruin drove two more runs home for the second and third runs of the inning on a two-RBI double to left-center field, giving the Slammers a 7-2 lead.

The Slammers held onto the 7-2 lead for the rest of the game, thanks to shutout pitching from Chase Doremus who continues to impress as he struck out six batters in two and one third innings of work.

Joliet hits the road again for a three game set in Schaumburg starting with Jacob Sanchez (0-1) on the hill for the Slammers. The Boomers will send Danny Jimenez (0-2) out in game one, starting at 6:30 with pre-game at 6:15 on 1340 WJOL .
