Joliet Slammers News Release

Last time out

Joliet saw their three-game winning streak snapped in a 6-2 loss Wednesday night to the Windy City ThunderBolts. The Slammers jumped on the board first with a solo home run from Seth Schwindenhammer but the ThunderBolts tied the game shortly after thanks to an unearned run. Then they exploded for five runs in the fifth inning to run away from Joliet. Zach Aakhus started the inning, this time reaching safely on a single. Templeton would score him on a RBI double and the next two batters in Walding and Torres would both walk to load the bases for Doug Joyce. Joyce hit a bases-clearing double to right field, scoring three runs and giving the ThunderBolts a 5-1 lead. Joyce scored the final run of the inning for Windy City on a RBI single from Andrew Brauer to make it a 6-1 ballgame. Joliet scored one run back in the seventh but could not bring any more home.

For Starters...

Brett Zawacki is coming off a hard luck loss to the Lake Erie Crushers on May 31 when he gave up five runs in five innings, but only two of the runs were earned in a 5-1 defeat. The Illinois native brings a history of success in affiliated baseball to the Slammers. The right-hander advanced as high as Double-A in the Cardinals organization. St. Louis made Zawacki their 12th round selection out of LaSalle-Peru Township High School in 2007. Last season was Zawacki's first year in the Frontier League.
