Worcester Red Sox News Release
WORCESTER, M.A. - It was another back-and-forth affair at Frontier Field, and it was another win for the Rochester Red Wings (19-28), who took down the Worcester Red Sox (29-18) 10-6 on Saturday night.
The WooSox had the lead three batters in, when Franchy Cordero doubled to right and scored Jarren Duran. It was the start of an offense-filled first two innings, with a run coming home in each half inning. Rochester's response in the bottom of the first was a Yadiel Hernandez solo home run, before a Jett Bandy sac-fly made it 2-1 in the top of the second. Moments later, a Red Wings' RBI single from Blake Swihart re-tied it.
The teams traded runs once again in the fourth: Bandy singled in Jack Lopez, and Daniel Palka did the same again in the bottom of the frame.
After Cordero delivered another run with a homer to lead off the fifth, Rochester broke the game open in the sixth. After a walk, Jake Noll and Brandon Snyder came through with back-to-back doubles, two and one runs each. With Noll on second, Humberto Arteaga lined a payoff pitch to right to make it 7-4 Red Wings.
A Gettys two-run long ball cut the deficit to one-his second in as many games-but Rochester came back with a two-RBI single from Arteaga to grab both runs back. One batter later, a throwing error allowed Arteaga to score to make it 10-6.
In a bullpen game, the WooSox got three innings of scoreless relief from Kevin McCarthy and a runless 1.1 innings by Caleb Simpson. The defeat marked the team's first four-game losing streak of the season, surpassing a three-game stretch during the first series of the year.
The WooSox conclude the series Sunday in Rochester at 1:05 p.m. Radio coverage starts live from Frontier Field at 12:45 p.m. on 100 FM The Pike and the WooSox Radio Network. On the mound, Worcester's Daniel Gossett (4-2, 4.73) faces Sean Nolin (0-1, 5.51).
