Hitting prevails for RailRiders in victory

(Allentown, Pa) - The Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders (31-13) defeated the Lehigh Valley IronPigs (21-26) 10-4 on Saturday night.

The IronPigs scored a run in the bottom of the second inning when Ryan Cordell hit a home run against RailRiders starting pitcher Matt Krook. It was his 10th home run of the season. Andrew Velazquez tied the game at 1-1 in the top of the third inning when he hit a home run against Adonis Medina (3-5). The home run was his fourth of the season.

The RailRiders scored five runs in the top of the fifth inning to take a 6-1 lead. Estevan Florial hit an RBI double to score Rob Brantly and Armando Alvarez. Derek Dietrich followed with a three-run home run, his fifth of the season. Three more runs were added to the RailRiders total in the top of the sixth inning against Mauricio Llovera as Brantly scored with the bases loaded and Dietrich hit a two-run single to score Alvarez and Hoy Park.

Dalton Guthrie hit a two-run home run against Nick Goody in the bottom of the seventh inning to cut the RailRiders lead to 9-3. The home run was Guthrie's second of the season. Chris Gittens followed with a home run against Damon Jones in the top of the eighth inning to give the RailRiders a 10-3 lead. Cordell got Lehigh Valley's fourth run of the game when he hit an RBI single against Sal Romano in the bottom of the eighth inning.

Reggie McClain (4-0) earned the win for Scranton/Wilkes-Barre as he pitched two scoreless innings in relief of Krook. The IronPigs and RailRiders wrap up their series on Sunday afternoon at Coca-Cola Park. First pitch is scheduled for 1:35 p.m.
