Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders News Release
ALLENTOWN, Pa. - The Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders pounded out 12 hits including three home runs in a 10-4 victory over the Lehigh Valley IronPigs on Saturday night at Coca-Cola Park.
The RailRiders opened the scoring in the bottom of the third when Andrew Velazquez hit a solo home run against Adonis Medina. The blast was Velazquez's fourth of the season, and third of the series.
Lehigh Valley struck back in the top of the third, when Ryan Cordell connected for a solo home run off Matt Krook. That was the only hit allowed by the RailRiders left-hander, who struck out six and walked three in 4.0 innings in his first Triple-A start.
SWB broke the game open in the top of the fifth with five runs in a nine-batter inning. Estevan Florial legged out a two-run double, and Derek Dietrich clobbered a three-run home run to provide the tallies and give the RailRiders a 6-1 lead.
In the top of the sixth, the Baby Bombers tacked on three more runs after Chris Gittens drew a bases-loaded walk and Dietrich followed with a two-run single to right. It was a monster night for Dietrich, who finished 2-for-4 with a home run, five RBIs and a walk.
The IronPigs added two runs in the bottom of the seventh against Nick Goody, but Gittens responded with a solo homer to dead center to extend the advantage to 10-3. Lehigh Valley added another run in the eighth, but the SWB bullpen was able to close out the win.
Reggie McClain (4-0) pitched 2.0 scoreless innings to get the win. The right-hander has turned in seven consecutive scoreless appearances, totaling 12.0 innings of work.
POSTGAME NOTES: All nine hitters in the RailRiders lineup tallied at least one hit, with Dietrich, Rob Brantly and Amando Alvarez all collecting two hits. Florial and Gittens also had 2 RBIs... Trey Amburgey went 1-for-4 with a walk to extend his RailRiders record on-base streak to 34 games.
