Omaha Storm Chasers News Release
OMAHA, Neb. - In front of the largest crowd of the season with 7,888 fans at Werner Park, the Omaha Storm Chasers (34-32) notched a series win in the I-80 rivalry with a 7-4 win over the Iowa Cubs (34-31). The Storm Chasers have won seven of the last eleven meetings with Iowa at Werner Park.
After being shut out in the first five innings, the Omaha offense came alive in their final three at-bats with seven runs in the sixth through eighth. Dusty Coleman broke through for the Storm Chasers with a three-run homer in the sixth, and seven of his nine hits at Werner Park this season have gone for extra bases. Omaha rallied for another three spot in the seventh started by a wacky RBI double for Paulo Orlando that bounced off first base, then Cheslor Cuthbert hit a two-run shot for his eighth homer of the season (tied for the team lead).
Danny Duffy made his third start (and second full start) as part of his MLB Rehab Assignment, and allowed two runs and one earned over his 3.2 innings of work. Duffy racked up six strikeouts during the start, and now has 10 strikeouts in 7.2 innings for the Storm Chasers this season. The late rallies by Omaha saved him from taking his first ever loss at Werner Park, as the left-hander has never been charged with a loss in 14 appearances (12 starts).
The Iowa Cubs threatened in the ninth in an inning that was extended by a Storm Chasers error with two outs, but Michael Mariot struck out the final batter to collect his fifth save on the season. That mark is tied with Louis Coleman for the team lead, and Mariot has eight strikeouts in his last 3.0 innings pitched.
Omaha now travels to Nashville for their first ever appearance at First Tennessee Park, and in the first game of the series LHP John Lamb (6-1, 2.78 ERA) faces off with Sounds RHP A.J. Griffin (0-1, 10.38 ERA). First pitch on 1180 Zone 2 The Deuce and MiLB.TV is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
