New Orleans Baby Cakes News Release
Round Rock, TX - The Round Rock Express sent nine batters to the plate in the seventh inning scored four runs and rallied past the New Orleans Zephyrs 8-7 on a rainy night in Texas.
The rain from Tropical Storm Bill delayed the start of the game by 30 minutes and it rained pretty much throughout the game but the Z's and Express were able to play the nine inning contest. Heavy rains fell in the ninth inning as the Zephyr rally came up short, leaving a pair of runners on base.
New Orleans scored three in the first inning and added a pair in the second inning to grab a 5-0 lead. Jarrod Cosart on a rehab assignment from the Miami Marlins pitched five and a third innings allowed four runs on seven hits and left the game with a 7-4 lead.
The Express rally scored four times off of Zephyr reliever Grant Dayton. Chris Gimenez delivered the two run double to score the tying run and a go ahead run.
Will Lamb pitched an inning and a third to earn the win and Spencer Patton remained perfect converting his eighth save in eight opportunities. The Z's had two men on base when Patton got Scott Sizemore on a called third strike to end the game.
The Zephyrs fall to 29-34 and 9 ½ games back of first place Round Rock. The Z's have dropped nine of their last 13 games.
GAME NOTES
