WEST SACRAMENTO, Calif. - Juan Perez came up in the bottom of the ninth representing the tying run for a second straight night, but again failed to make an impact as he popped out to right field to seal the Fresno Grizzlies (40-25) 3-1 win over the Sacramento River Cats (29-37) Tuesday night at Raley Field. Fresno starter Asher Wojciechowski extended his career-high minor-league undefeated streak to 12 starts and for a second straight night the Grizzlies took down a World Champion pitcher.

L.J. Hoes made sure the Grizzlies' offense jumped on rehab starter Jake Peavy right away in the first. He made the right-hander pay for issuing two walks by lacing a two-out double into the gap in left-center to plate Tony Kemp and Jon Singleton.

The 2-0 lead shrunk to one in the fourth when Travis Ishikawa singled in Adam Duvall, but it would be the only run the River Cats generated off Fresno pitching. Starter Asher Wojciechowski allowed the lone run, scattered five hits, and struck out five over seven quality innings. It marked his second start this year for Fresno where he pitched at least 7.0 IP and did not allow an earned run (other, June 1st at OKC). Jose Veras and Tyson Perez chipped in with scoreless innings in the eighth and ninth respectively to help ensure Fresno went to 8-0 in games started by Wojciechowski.

Tony Kemp, who was recently promoted from Double-A Corpus Christi, recorded his first homer of the season by circling the bases for an inside-the-park homer off Jake Peavy in the fifth. The homer seemed to deflate the River Cats, who could only muster three baserunners from the fifth inning on in what became their fourth straight loss.

Jon Singleton extended his hitting streak to a career-high tying 12 games with a single in the third and was one of only five players to reach base for the Grizzlies.

Fresno has already secured a series win over the River Cats, which is their first at Raley Field since taking three of four against them back from July 14-17, 2011. They'll seek a series sweep tomorrow night at 7:05 PM when they send lefty Luis Cruz to the hill to face righty Chris Stratton. The action at Raley Field can be heard locally in Fresno on 1430 AM-KYNO. After the conclusion of Wednesday night's game, the Grizzlies will bus home to Fresno to begin a seven-game, eight-day homestand at Chukchansi Park on Thursday, June 18th vs. Las Vegas.
