Late Mistakes Aids the Baysox in 5-4 Win

(Bowie, MD) - The Bowie Baysox (63-57) rallied back from a 4-2 deficit, scoring three unearned runs off RHP Ryne Miller (2-2) and defeated the Portland Sea Dogs (58-61) 5-4 on Sunday night at Prince George's Stadium. Portland finished the roadtrip at 2-4 and did not win a road series against a Southern Division opponent this season.

Bowie RHP Zach Clark (2-1) tossed 1.2 scoreless innings and fanned two in earning the win. Miller yielded three hits on three unearned runs over 2.1 IP to take the loss. LHP Chad Thall allowed two hits but picked up his 16th hold of the season and RHP Ryan Ouellette pitched 2/3 of an inning to record his 4th save of the year.

CF Ryan Kalish was the offense star for the Sea Dogs, giving Portland a 1-0 lead in the first inning with a one-out, solo-homer off starter RHP Pedro Beato. Trailing 2-1 entering the sixth inning, LF Jason Place and RF Daniel Nava began the frame with singles. Kalish smacked a 2-run triple off the right-field wall and scored on 3B Jorge Jimenez' sac-fly to give Portland a 4-2 lead. Beato did not walk a batter over six innings and allowed four runs on six hits with three strikeouts.

The Baysox tied the game in the sixth inning with two unearned runs off Miller. 2B Paco Figueroa singled and C Adam Donachie walked. SS Jason White lifted a high fly ball to left field that looked to be the third out but it was dropped by Place to score Figueroa. LF Jonathan Tucker followed with a run-scoring, ground-rule double. Bowie scored the game-winner with two outs in the seventh inning. DH Miguel Abreu smoked a 2-out double to knock Miller out of the game. LHP Tommy Hottovy entered the contest and yielded a line drive single, which hit his glove. On the play, SS Yamaico Navarro tried to bare hand the hit but it rolled off his hand into short left field, enabling Abreu to score the winning run.

Portland starter RHP Ryne Lawson took a no-decision, giving up a six hits and two runs over 4.1 IP. White tied the game at one with a run-scoring ground out and 3B Josh Bell smoked a solo-homer to left-center field to start the fourth, giving Bowie a 2-1 lead.

RF Daniel Nava went 1-for-4 with a run scored and has reached base safely in all 10 starts since joining the Sea Dogs from High-A Salem.

Notes...Portland won 4 of 6 from Bowie but held the Baysox 8-for-54 (.148) with runners-in-scoring position against the ‘Dogs...Kalish has 9 of his 10 homers in the last 44 games...The Sea Dogs are 15-19 in 1-run games this season and are 9-10 during their 26-game stretch against the Southern Division...DH Lars Anderson returned to the lineup and went 1-for-4...Anderson appeared to have homered in the sixth inning down the right-field line but umpire ruled it a foul ball.
