Akron's four homers down Rock Cats, 8-1

New Britain, CT - Akron clubbed four home runs - including two by shortstop Carlos Rivero - to down New Britain, 8-1 and snap the Rock Cats' four-game winning streak.

The Aeros snapped out of their hitting slump with an explosive first two innings against Rock Cats starter Cole DeVries. In the first, Jose Constanza led off the inning with a single and Carlos Santana reached on a walk before Matt McBride slugged a three-run shot over the left field wall. Rivero led off the second inning with a blast off the scoreboard in left field to put the Aeros on top, 4-0. Jared Head added an RBI single in the inning.

Beau Mills joined the home run outburst with a solo shot to lead off the third inning.

The Rock Cats got on the board in the bottom of the fourth when Erik Lis doubled and Luke Hughes followed with a single. Brian Dinkelman then lined a double into right field to knock in Lis to close the gap, 6-1.

Mills (12-8) tacked on another run for the Aeros with a sacrifice fly RBI in the fifth. Rivero added his second homer of the day with a solo shot off reliever Kyle Waldrop to start the sixth.

DeVries (7-13) finished with seven runs on eight hits through five innings.

Josh Tomlin limited the Rock Cats to one run on five hits while striking out six and walking none in five innings of work. The Rock Cats (60-60) fall back to .500 with the loss.
