
Harrisburg holds of Trenton for 3-1 win

(Harrisburg, PA)- Harrisburg scored the go-ahead two runs in the seventh inning, and posted a 3-1 win over Trenton on Sunday afternoon from Metro Bank Park. Despite the loss, Trenton did not lose any ground in the Northern Division battle for second place. New Britain lost to Akron on Sunday afternoon. The Thunder stayed a game behind New Britain for second place.
Harrisburg broke a 1-1 tie with two runs in the seventh inning. With one out, Third baseman Joel Guzman walked against Trenton Starting Pitcher Lance Pendleton (0-2). Second baseman Leonard Davis followed with a single to move Guzman to third base. Trenton Reliever Wilkins Arias came on for Pendleton to face Pinch Hitter Matt Whitney. Whitney walked to load the bases for First baseman Bill Rhinehart. Rhinehart reached on an error by Shortstop Eduardo Nunez. The error allowed Guzman to score to give the Senators a 2-1 lead. Catcher Sean Rooney drove home the second run of the frame with a sacrifice fly RBI.
Harrisburg took a 1-0 lead in the fifth inning. Second baseman Leonard Davis double with one out. He moved to third base on a fly out by Left fielder Marvin Lowrance. Davis scored on an RBI single by First baseman Bill Rhinehart. Trenton tied the game with a run in the top of the seventh inning. First baseman Chris Malec doubled and advanced to third base on a passed ball. With one out in the frame, he scored on an RBI single by Left fielder James Cooper to tie the game at 1-1. Cooper had two hits for Trenton in the loss. Nunez had two hits, and six hits in the three-game series.
Pendleton retired the first 13 batters of the game. He yielded three runs (one earned) and five hits in 6 1/3 innings to take the loss. Meyers allowed only five hits and one run over seven innings to pick up the win. Harrisburg Reliever Drew Storen, a 2009 first round selection by the Nationals, tossed the final two innings for his third save.
Trenton is off on Monday. The Thunder will start a three-game series against the Erie Sea Wolves (Double-A affiliate of the Detroit Tigers) on Tuesday night. LHP Jeremy Bleich (3-5, 5.36) will start for Trenton. LHP Ramon Garcia (2-3, 5.73) will start for Erie. Game time is set for 7:05 p.m.
