Defenders Drop Series Finale 6-5 To Erie

NORWICH, CT- It was Bark at the Park on a hot and humid Sunday afternoon at Dodd Stadium, as the fans and mans best friend saw Connecticut fall to Erie 6-5 as the SeaWolves came from behind for the win.

SeaWolves 3B- Santo De Leon delivered four RBI's in the game to push Erie past Connecticut, a 3-run double in the sixth gave Erie a 4-3 lead. De Leon responded again in the eighth with the game tied at five he delivered with a RBI single to score DH-Deik Scram for the game winning run.

Connecticut jumped on the SeaWolves in the bottom of the third inning scoring three times. C-Tyler LaTorre led things off with a double and was driven in by a CF-Mike McBryde single for the first run. Brad Boyer reached on a LF-Ryan Strieby error when he misplayed the ball allowing Mike McBryde to score. 1B-Brett Pill drove in his 93rd run capping off the inning with a base hit to score Boyer.

The Defenders down 4-3 to Erie in the bottom of the sixth retook the lead thanks to DH- Eddy Martinez-Esteve. Brett Pill drew a one out walk, giving Martinez-Esteve the chance to deliver what was his seventh homerun of the season as Connecticut was back out in front 5-4.

Erie tied the game up in the in the top of the seventh off LHP-Joe Paterson, when CF-Casper Wells came up with his first hit of the series, a double with two outs. That allowed RF-Brennan Boesch to drive in Wells with an RBI single to right center.

Defenders starting pitcher LHP-Ben Snyder threw a great five innings of work allowing just one run on two hits. Picking up the win for Erie was RHP-Brett Jensen (4-3) going a 1.1 innings not allowing a hit, while walking one and striking out a pair. Former Defender Jason Waddell (0-0) picked up his first save as a member of Erie with a perfect ninth. Suffering the loss was LHP-Joe Paterson (4-6) as he allowed two runs on three hits.

Connecticut (69-51) takes the series from Erie (63-56) 2-1 and finish the home stand at 3-3. Up next for the Defenders will be a day off then a three game series versus the New Hampshire Fisher Cats on the road at Merchant Auto.com Stadium at 7:05pm on Tuesday.
