KANNAPOLIS, NC - Down to their final strike and trailing by a run, the Asheville Tourists found a way to eventually win against the Kannapolis Intimidators. With the tying run at third base, two outs, and two strikes on Brian Mundell in the top of the ninth inning, Asheville's first-baseman clubbed his league leading 27th double of the season to tie the game. Brendan Rodgers later connected with a three-run Home Run in the 11th to secure a 9-6 win.

Asheville jumped out to a 3-0 lead with a Sam Hilliard Home Run and a pair of RBI doubles by Max George and Terry Mundell in the top of the second. After Kannapolis plated two in the bottom of the second, Hilliard singled in a run in the top of the third.

Kannapolis took a 5-4 lead when Seby Zavala blasted a three-run Homer in the bottom of the third, but the Tourists tied the game 5-5 when Hilliard came through with another RBI single.

The Intimidators netted a run on a sacrifice fly in the seventh and held the lead 6-5 until the top of the ninth. With Mylz Jones at third and the Tourists down to their final strike, Mundell crushed a Yelmison Peralta offering to the left-centerfield gap for the game-tying double.

In the top of the 11th, Carlos Herrera and Jones worked back-to-back walks; then advanced 90 feet after a Jack Charleston wild pitch. On the very next pitch, Rodgers launched a three-run Home Run well over the left field wall.

Cristian Quintin finished off Kannapolis in the bottom of the 11th by inducing a game ending double play. Quintin worked the final three innings and struck out five en route to his first win of the season.

Asheville and Kannapolis square off in game two of their four-game series on Friday night with the first pitch scheduled for 7:05pm.
