Rome Emperors News Release
Rome, GA - Rome overcame an early Greenville lead banging out 15 hits to get a 7-4 win at State Mutual Stadium before 1,879 fans.
The Drive grabbed a 3-0 lead in the second inning on bases loaded walks by Austin Rei and Chad De la Guerra, and a wild pitch to score a run. Rome answered with a run in the bottom of the inning on Lucas Herbert's RBI single. Greenville made it a 4-1 game in the third on Roldano Balwin's third home run of the year, but Rome came back with two runs in the bottom half of the frame on Ray Patrick Didder's (2) two run homer.
Rome posted two more runs in the fourth on Herbert's RBI groundout and Bradley Kellor's double to plate a run. With the score 5-4 in the fifth, the Braves added to their lead when Jonathan Morales lined a run scoring double and Carlos Castro added an RBI groundout for the 7-4 lead. The Rome bullpen shut down Greenville the rest of the game holding on for the win. Braves pitching held the Drive to just four hits in the game. In his Major League rehab assignment, Jim Johnson went one inning allowing one hit and striking out two.
Matt Custred (2-1) earns the win in relief while Greenville starter Marc Brakeman (2-3) is charged with the loss. Bladimir Matos gets his second save of the season.
The Braves and Drive go at it again tomorrow at 7 p.m. with fireworks following the game. For information contact the Rome Braves at 706-378-5144 or log onto www.romebraves.com.
