Buffalo Bisons News Release
A two-out walk and a fielding error in the seventh inning were the Bisons' undoing in a 5-2 loss to the Indianapolis Indians, Tuesday night from Sahlen Field. The Herd pitching staff struck out 16 batters, but it wasn't enough as Buffalo dropped just their third game in their last 11 contest
The Bisons had just rallied from two runs down to tie the game when the I-Tribe scored the decisive runs of the contest. After Corey Copping struck out the first two batters of the seventh, the righty lost a seven-pitch battle to Nick Franklin for the two-out free pass.
Indy's Kevin Kramer then drove the third pitch he saw from southpaw Matt Dermody to deep right field, backing Anthony Alford up to the wall in front of the Bully Hill Party Deck. The ball bounced off of Alford's glove towards the top of the wall, barely staying in the ballpark. Even though the ball stayed in play, the two-base error was enough to score Franklin from first for the game-winning run.
The Indians' next batter, first-baseman Will Craig, added insurance with a two-run blast to left for his 16th home run of the season. Before the seventh, it was a tale of two contests. Indy starter Cam Vieaux threw a gem, allowing just one base runner through the first five innings. But the momentum switched to the Bisons when Andy Burns doubled to lead off the sixth and break up Vieaux's no-hit bid. Bo Bichette followed with a sharp RBI-single to right and Socrates Brito hit a mammoth solo home run to center to tie the game a two.
Sean Reid-Foley started for the Bisons and struck out eight batters over 4.2 innings of work. Copping struck out four of the seven batters he faced while Dermody and newcomer Ty Tice each picked up a pair of strikeouts to give the Herd 16 punchouts. The total is just two shy of the team's modern era record of 18 strikeouts on August 24, 2005 against Syracuse.
The 'Buffalo Wings' will look to even the series on Wednesday against Indy with a 7:05 p.m. first pitch. The game is also another Tops Dog Day at the Park. (TICKETS).
BISONS NOTES: There was a scary moment in the fourth inning when Sean Reid-Foley hit former Bison infielder Jake Elmore in the back of the head with a fastball, knocking off his helmet. Thankfully, Elmore did walk off on his own power before being removed from the game...All four Bisons hits in the game came in the seventh inning. The only other baserunner the Herd had came in the third when Reese McGuire was hit by a pitch...Before the game, the Blue Jays recalled OF Billy McKinney and RHP Justin Shafer.
