Toledo Mud Hens News Release
TOLEDO, Ohio - The Toledo Mud Hens threw 13 strikeouts Tuesday in the 2-1 win over the Lehigh Valley IronPigs at Fifth Third Field.
It's the first win for Toledo against Lehigh Valley to begin the season-series and fifth against International League North Division opponents this season.
Tim Adleman (3-2, 3.03 ERA) got his seventh start with the Mud Hens through the midway point of June.
The former pitcher for the KBO's Samsung Lions and Atlantic League of Professional Baseball's Long Island Ducks, Adleman lasted five innings, allowing four hits and one earned run on seven strikeouts for the win.
Lehigh Valley starter Drew Anderson, whose last recall to the Philadelphia Phillies came on May 23, struck out eight through five innings of work in the loss.
Sitting in third place in the IL West Division at 29-39, Toledo has won three of its last four games and four of its last five at home.
The Mud Hens grabbed their first base runner in Daz Cameron in the third inning after four of the first six batters went down swinging.
Cameron was hit by the pitch and would reach third on his fourth stolen base of the year and a sacrifice grounder from Pete Kozma.
Unable to advance Cameron home, Toledo was held scoreless until the fourth inning.
Jacob Robson, coming into Tuesday's game batting .249 with three home runs and 20 RBIs, sent a bloop single into shallow center field to score Willi Castro for the 1-1 tie.
Robson extends his hit streak to nine games. The No. 16 ranked prospect for the Detroit Tigers has notched six total RBIs dating back to Thursday.
The 22-year-old Castro leads the Mud Hens in runs scored (42) and stolen bases (11).
Lehigh Valley built its first threat with bases loaded and two outs in the fourth.
The third walk of the inning by Adleman to Mitch Walding granted Andrew Romine to trot home for the first run of the game.
Toledo, who seized the eventual game-winner in the fifth, has now won eight games this season when opponents score first.
Kozma's sacrfice fly to right field provided Cameron the green light home. It's the first RBI for the 2007 St. Louis Cardinals first-round draft pick since returning from the injured list on June 11.
Cameron, the native of McDonnough, Georgia, finished with a season-high three stolen bases.
The Mud Hens improve to 27-2 when leading after the eighth inning and 6-11 in games decided by a one-run difference.
What's Next:
Ryan Carpenter (1-4, 4.15 ERA) is probable to start Wednedsay in the second of a three-game series against the IronPigs.
Opening pitch is scheduled for 12:05 p.m. (EST).
