Last Minute Goal Sinks Thunder

RAPID CITY, SD- The Wichita Thunder fell 4-3 to the Rapid City Rush on Friday night at the Rushmore Plaza Civic Center. Troy Ofukany knotted the game at 3-3 with less than a minute left, but Rapid City's Jon Pelle delivered the game-winner with 8.3 seconds left on the clock in regulation.

Pelle opened the scoring with a power play goal at 6:20 in the first period. Rush forward Joey Olson scored on a breakaway at 15:17 in the second period, making it 2-0 Rapid City. Scott Rozendal found the back of the net at 19:27 in the second to get Wichita on the board, and then tied the game at 3:45 in the third. Both of Rozendal's goals came on the power play.

Kyle Sheen scored on a rebound at 4:28 in the third, giving the Rush their second lead of the night. Ofukany scored to the long side of the net just as the Thunder planned on pulling goaltender Krister Toews. Pelle scored the game-winner after a turnover inside the Thunder zone.

Toews suffered the loss, saving 41 of 45 shots. Miguel Beaudry picked up the win, saving 26 of 29. The Thunder went 10 for 11 on the penalty kill.
