Amarillo Gorillas News Release

Loveland, CO 1/9/09 - Seven goals through the first two periods lifted the Colorado Eagles to a 9-2 victory over the visiting Amarillo Gorillas Friday night.

The Eagles began the first period scoring with a power play goal by Riley Nelson at the 4:29 mark, assisted by Kevin Ulanski and Ryan Tobler. Following a John Snowden goal-on a feed from Stuart MacRae-Nelson got back on the board with a 5-on-3 goal at 17:53 of the period to put Colorado back out to a one-goal lead. After Amarillo Head Coach Tom Coolen received an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty following the Nelson goal, Colorado found themselves back on a two-man advantage. Konrad Reeder made good on the opportunity, scoring a goal with just 40 seconds remaining in the period to put the Eagles up by two heading into the second period.

The first ten-plus minutes of the second period went by scoreless, before Colorado broke the drought with a Ryan Tobler tally at the 10:59 mark. Reeder and Tobler both scored in the following two minutes to increase the Eagles' lead (6-1). Brad Bonello responded with his first goal as a Gorilla late in the second, drawing his new team to within four. Colorado's Kevin Ulanski would score before the conclusion of the period, though, putting the Eagles on top 7-2 heading into the final frame of action.

Colorado would score twice more in the third-a Greg Pankewicz marker at 7:16 and a Brett Hammond shorthanded tally at 12:39-to pull away with the 9-2 victory.

The Eagles outshot the Gorillas 48 to 20 during the game, which featured only 22 penalty minutes between the two teams. A.J. Bucchino (0-3-0) took the loss in net for Amarillo (10-21-0), who will return home Saturday night to play division foe New Mexico. Saturday night is "Canyon Night" in the Jungle, with special $9 tickets to those showing their I.D. with a Canyon address at the Gorillas ticketing office (901 S. Buchanan in Amarillo) before 4:00 PM Saturday. For more information on the promotion and other upcoming games, please call (806) 242-PUCK (7825).
