Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs News Release
BOSSIER CITY, LA - Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs center Travis Clayton has been named one of two Co-Captains for the 2009 CHL All-Star team, the Central Hockey League announced today. Oklahoma City Blazers defenseman Tyler Fleck will serve as the other Co-Captain for the All-Stars, who will battle the Colorado Eagles on Wednesday, January 14 at the Budweiser Events Center in the 2009 CHL All-Star Game.
Clayton, who is currently in his 12th CHL season, will have a "C" on his jersey when he makes his seventh CHL All-Star appearance on Wednesday in Loveland, Colorado. He was selected to six All-Star games as a member of the Wichita Thunder in 1999, 2000, 2002, 2003, 2005, 2006. His seven All-Star games are the most of any player in this year's game.
Being named an All-Star Captain is just the latest accolade in Clayton's record breaking 2008-09 season. The Paradise Hill, Saskatchewan native broke the league record for career games played earlier this season, playing in his 709th CHL game on November 21, 2008 at Rocky Mountain. Entering tonight's game in Laredo, he has played 727 games in the league. Last night in Corpus Christi, Clayton had two assists to give him 528 in his CHL career. That puts him ahead of former Blazers' defenseman Hardy Sauter for second all-time in league history. Clayton, who already entered this year as the second-leading goal scorer in league history, is now just 11 points away from passing former Tulsa great Doug Lawrence as the second-leading point producer in CHL history.
Fleck, who has played his entire CHL career with Oklahoma City, will wear the other "C" as Clayton's Co-Captain. Fleck is in his fifth year serving as the Blazers' Captain and is making his second career All-Star appearance.
Clayton and his Mudbugs teammates are in Laredo to take on the Bucks tonight in the second of their three-in-three south Texas weekend. The âBugs knocked off Corpus Christi 4-1 last night and will be in Rio Grande Valley to face the Killer Bees tomorrow. Opening faceoff between Bossier-Shreveport and Laredo is set for 7:30 pm tonight, and the game will be broadcast on AM 1130 KWKH with pregame coverage set to begin at 7:10. It can also be seen live online on the CHL Network.
