Mississippi Whitewashes Tulsa, 6-0

(Southaven, MS) -- Matt Summers scored the game-winning goal and added two assists, as Kevin Beech posted his second shutout of the season in the Mississippi RiverKings' 6-0 victory over the Tulsa Oilers on Friday night at the DeSoto Civic Center in Southaven.

Jeff Nelson added two assists in the victory to run his point streak to eight games and 14 points. Mississippi has beaten Tulsa four straight times this season.

The RiverKings scored four times in the first period and twice on the power play, with both power play goals coming in the final minute of the first session.

Matt Summers scored the first goal at 12:02 for a 1-0 lead. Garrett Larson then deflected a loose puck into the net from in front for a 2-0 Mississippi lead at 17:13 of the first period.

Mississippi next scored two power play goals in the space of 18 seconds for a 4-0 lead in the final minute of the frame. Jeff Alcombrack scored the first power play goal at 19:23, his fifth goal of the year and his fourth power play score.

Darrell Stoddard finished off the period with a power play goal at 19:41 for a 4-0 advantage at the first intermission.

In the second period, Mississippi added to the lead with a shorthanded goal scored by Bobby Chaumont, assisted by Nelson, at 12:09 for a 5-0 lead at the second intermission.

Adam Smyth wrapped up the scoring with his fourth goal of the year at 10:43 of the third period for the game's final score.

Mississippi was 2-for-8 on the power play and added the team's sixth shorthande goal of the year. Tulsa went 0-for-6 with the man advantage.

Beech improved his season record to 16-8-0 with a 22-save performance. Tulsa goaltender Davis Parley fell to 0-2-0 with a six-goal, 28-save effort.

Mississippi out shot the OIlers 34-22 in the win. The RiverKings are 21-12-0 for the season, while the Oilers fell to 9-19-4 with the loss. Tulsa plays at Oklahoma City tomorrow night.
