New Mexico Scorpions News Release

[BROOMFIELD, Col.]-The Rage doubled up the Scorpions 6-3 on Friday night. Rocky Mountain tied a franchise record scoring five power play goals in the contest.

Mitch Stephens started the night's scoring with a fancy goal. Stephens split two defensemen, then made a backhand to forehand move on the goaltender and slid the puck into the open net.

The Rage stormed back with two power play goals in the opening frame. Jarred Mohr lit the lamp for the first time with a slap shot from the blue line. Scott Wray tipped in a shot giving the Rage their first lead of the game at the 18:18 mark of the first period.

Two more power play goals for the Rage in the second period increased their lead. Daymen Rycroft scored on successive man advantages to give his team a 4-1 edge.

New Mexico narrowed the deficit as Jamie Herrington delivered a tape to tape pass to Aaron MacInnis. The Scorpions captain then took a wrist shot into the net, for his sixth goal of the season.

Just like the first two periods, the Rage scored twice and the Scorps once. Scott Wray scored Rocky Mountain's fifth power play goal of the night at the 1:06 mark.

New Mexico answered as Torren Delforte scored his 11th of the season on a feed from Neil Trimm. The Rage sealed the game with their only even strength goal as Nathan O'Nabigon tucked the puck under the cross bar.

New Mexico continues their busy week in Amarillo tomorrow night. Watch the game for free on the CHL Network starting at 6:05 p.m.

The Scorpions return home on Wednesday, January 21st to face Odessa on $1 Nacho Night. American Cancer Night comes up on Saturday, January 24th. Special jerseys will be worn with a post game auction to benefit the Relay for Life. Both games start at 7:15 p.m.
