Las Vegas, NV - The Las Vegas Wranglers were defeated by the Idaho Steelheads 6-1 on Friday night in front of 4,422 fans at the Orleans Arena. Idaho's Steve Gainey scored twice and added two assists to lead the Steelheads to victory. Idaho goalie Rejean Beauchemin held the Wranglers scoreless for all but 16-seconds of the game. Las Vegas center Chris Ferraro scored the team's lone goal. Las Vegas will host Idaho at 7:30 PM at the Orleans Arena on Saturday night.
Idaho jumped out to 1-0 lead just 2:12 into the first period as Steve Gainey scored his first of the night. The Steelheads lead grew to 2-0 before the end of the opening period as Riley Weselowski scored his first goal of the season at 15:57.
The Steelheads added three more in the second period. Rookie Ben Nelson scored just 47-seconds into the middle period for the 3-0 lead. Just 1:24 later, Gainey netted his second of the night to give Idaho a 4-0 lead. The Steelheads added another before the end of the period as defenseman Matt Stephenson made it a 5-0 Idaho lead at 16:10 of the second period.
With 4:37 remaining in the third period, Idaho's Bryan MacGregor tallied for the 6-0 Idaho lead. Las Vegas concluded the scoring as Chris Ferraro scored with 16-seconds remaining for the 6-1 final.
