Lamoureux too good for Grizzlies

Alaska Aces News Release

ANCHORAGE, Alaska - Jean-Philippe Lamoureux kept the Aces unbeaten in their last six games and atop the West Division with 33 saves in a 5-1 victory over Utah before 4,712 Friday at Sullivan Arena.

The Aces (8-2-1 overall) move to within two wins of matching the team's all-time best start, set in the 1996-97 season by a club that began the year 10-2-1 on its way to the West Coast Hockey League finals. Lamoureux has allowed only four goals in his last five starts and has a 0.98 GAA and a .967 save percentage during Alaska's current 5-0-1 run.

The Aces scored twice in 90 seconds to take immediate control in the first period, as Matt Shasby scored on a one-timer off his back foot at 3:46 and Alexander Imbeault tipped in a drive by defenseman Nick Tuzzolino. A turnover in the defensive zone led to Tom May's fourth goal of the year at 13:11 of the opening frame, pulling Utah within 2-1 at the break.

Alaska again struck quickly in the second period, as Colin Hemingway's seventh goal of the year at 3:35 was followed by Jordan Foreman's second off the rush 75 seconds later, pushing the margin to 4-1. The Grizzlies (6-4) never threatened from that moment forward, and Vladimir Novak's first goal of the season eight minutes into the final period accounted for the final score.

Josh Soares returned to action after missing the last two games against Idaho, and while his goal-scoring streak came to an end after seven games, he still has registered at least an assist in all nine games that he has played for the Aces. The teams meet again tomorrow night at 7:15 p.m. and clash in the series finale Sunday at 5:05 p.m., a contest that will feature a Fred Meyer postgame "Skate with the Aces." Both weekend tilts will be broadcast live on the flagship home of Aces hockey, KFQD 750 AM, with Peanut Farm Pre-Game Show coverage getting underway 15 minutes prior to the opening face-off.
