Trenton Devils News Release

READING, PA - The Trenton Devils took control early against the Reading Royals and never looked back, snapping their five-game winless streak with a 4-1 win on the road. Charlie Effinger had a terrific Trenton Devils debut with 35 saves in his first professional win.

Effinger set the tone early by robbing Royals forward Luciano Aquino from a goal about a minute into the game. On the next rush, Rob Page kept the puck from clearing the zone with a wrist shot from the blue line that was deflected in by Jeff Prough, his first goal in a Trenton uniform that came 2:08 into the game.

The Devils continued to control the play, although Royals goaltender Danny Taylor made things difficult throughout the contest. Trenton finally broke through again on a highlight-reel goal by Tyler Burton at 15:45 of the second.

Late in the second period, Ryan Gunderson hit Brett Pilkington with a home run pass at the Royals blue line, allowing Pilkington to come in on a goal and fire a snap shot through the legs of Taylor, giving the Devils a three-goal lead at the break.

Despite an early goal by Kevin Harvey in the third, the Royals could not find any other answers against Effinger, who also had an assist in his first game for Trenton. Matt Radoslovich added an empty netter to close the game out for the Devils.

The Devils outshot the Royals 51-36, and finished the game 1-for-6 on the man advantage.

The Devils return to action on the road against the Wheeling Nailers Wednesday night, with the faceoff scheduled for 7:35 p.m. Fans can listen to the free audio broadcast online at www.trentondevils.com, courtesy of B2 Networks.
